Why RVC SportsScience?
RVCSS is based on the philosophy in reflecting, visualizing and changing for an intentional and integrated life.

R EFLECT
Reflecting allows us to pause for a moment in this hectic world. It gives us perspective and provides us with a fresh outlook. It stops us from living in automatic pilot. It gives us the opportunity to ask us questions which probably would not happen without the time and opportunity to reflect. Reflecting gives us the why of our motivations, goals and desires.
We live going forward wishing to achieve certain things. But, a dream without action is just only a dream.
Therefore, Reflecting in RVCSportsScience (RVCSS) means to question:

-
how have we been living until this point?
-
how do we see ourselves in relationship to what we want to achieve? and
-
what sources do we have or need to build who we want to be?

In RVCSS we consider reflection a big priority, as it allows us to be aware of the situations we are living, and to contemplate if we want to keep living as how we have been so far, or if it is necessary to change them.
We talk about achieving things. That requires action, which means behaving differently. But before that, there has to be a process of changing internally. That is where reflection comes in. It is the first step with the purpose to acknowledge where we are and who we are right now.
- We find the why. -

Observe, wait a minute.
What sources do I have, which ones I do not?
Who am I now? Who do I want to be?
How do I see myself? What beliefs do I have about myself?
Why do I want this?
Where does this desire come from?

VISUALIZE
"People are disturbed not by things, but by their views of things."
- Epictetus (A roman philosopher) -

To put it simply, Epictetus expresses with this quote that the situations we have in life are not the ones that disturb us, but actually how we see the situations is the main factor that determines how we are going to experience and live them. In other words, how you think about or see situations determines your emotions and therefore your actions. Your vision and thoughts have a big influence in how your behaviour is going to be.

In RVCSS we challenge our perspective about the situations we are going through and choose the angle of perspective we want to have for every situation. This means to live intentionally. Not to react to situations but choose proactively how you want to see them. In RVCSS we help you to choose the perspective you want to have about every situation. Your physical health and exercise performance do not remain excluded.
Visualize comes from vision, from observing, perceiving and visualizing your desires. In the phase of VISUALIZE you will change the negative perceptions you have about the aspects of your life that influence your health and exercise performance. You will be guided to change them in a rational way with the purpose to behave according to what you want to become and change in your life. Visualize will also promote you to be focused in your desire and goal.

- We change the perceptions.-

CHANGE
"In order to change you need to have a reason to change, and second, you need to use your reason to change!
- Windy Dryden
In this phase you will apply the new perspectives you have chosen of the same situation you are living. Especially in RVCSS, we will be talking more about the perceptions you have about your health, about yourself and your exercise performance.
Change means also you are not going to be the same person who you are right now, and especially who you have been. It means you will detach yourself from the person you have been. If you want to change, it means you are going to think and act differently. By changing your perception, you will later see the fruits of the perspective you have consciously chosen.

You will experience also the effects of the first step which is: finding your why (reflection - your reason) the one that will influence you to change. Finding your reason opens yourself to be honest and reflect on what are your motivations and reasons are. The quality of your reason will also determine the quality of your progress and achievements.

- We apply the why and the new perceptions. -

Sports Science
Why do we use Sports Science in RVCSS?

Sports Science provides the knowledge on how the body adapts to the triggers of training. It gives us the knowledge through research, about the magnificent way the body works and adapts to the different stimulus provided. Through this constant learning, it is possible to train smarter, effectively and with focus.

Talking specifically about exercise and health, where do you think that all the information of what you need to do to improve your performance and health comes from? Well, from research. Science is trial and error. It increases our curiosity and knowledge of how things work. The beauty of science is that it teaches us to make things better. To not give up and try to find (momentarily) answers.

In RVCSS the different sciences that are related to sport provide a holistic approach toward physical and mental health and exercise performance. Training and other health approaches will be set by scientific knowledge with the purpose to train smart and effectively. This occurs from listening to the body and building a connection with it and to have knowledge in what happens internally.

The Sciences involved are: Physiology, Biomechanics and Psychology.
Knowledge on Physiology teaches us how the body adapts in a cellular (metabolic) way.
Biomechanics teaches us how we move, how is our body built, movement patterns and how to increase movement skills.
Dealing with our Psychology will provide the tools to how to talk to your body and how to connect with it. In addition it is necessary to be aware of the relationship between your mind and body with the purpose for a good performance.
